I recently photographed a summer solstice adventure with Secret Adventures, which would be spent canoeing along the River Wye on the Herefordshire/Wales border and camping along the way. We arrived at the Bycross Farm Campsite in time for some toasted marshmallows before bed. In the morning, we packed up our things and made our way to the river to begin canoeing, after a quick cup of tea and a stop off at a café for bacon sandwiches. We canoed for the whole day in the sunshine, which was surprising as the weather did not seem like it was going to be on our side. After only one capsize! we set up camp in Mrs Mason’s field on the riverbank and cooked a delicious meal under the light of the longest day of the year. It felt good to be making the most of the solstice. It’s only the second time i’ve properly celebrated it in my life but I wish to celebrate it every year, it feels so magical. In the morning I woke up to the most beautiful sunrise over the river before breakfast. We packed up and made our way further along the river until we reached our landing point. Then it was time for delicious pub lunch before heading home.
